{"id":629,"date":"2024-12-03T10:52:03","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T02:52:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8081\/Moonsshieldhk\/wordpress\/?p=629"},"modified":"2024-12-18T15:35:17","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T07:35:17","slug":"energy-sector-contractor-englobal-targeted-in-ransomware-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/moonsshieldhk.com\/index.php\/en\/2024\/12\/03\/energy-sector-contractor-englobal-targeted-in-ransomware-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy Sector Contractor ENGlobal Targeted in Ransomware Attack"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" data-id=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/moonsshieldhk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/COSMICENERGY-OT-Malware.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-630\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Energy sector contractor ENGlobal Corporation on Monday announced that some of its operations have been affected by a ransomware attack.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a regulatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the company revealed that it discovered the attack on November 25 and took certain systems offline to contain the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe preliminary investigation has revealed that a threat actor illegally accessed the company\u2019s information technology (IT) system and encrypted some of its data files,\u201d ENGlobal Corporation said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUpon detecting the unauthorized access, the company immediately took steps to contain, assess and remediate the cybersecurity incident, including beginning an internal investigation, engaging external cybersecurity specialists, and restricting access to its IT system,\u201d it continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of the containment measures and the ongoing investigation, only access to essential business operations has remained available, the company told the SEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ENGlobal Corporation also noted that its recovery efforts continue, but could not provide an estimate as to when full access to its IT systems would be restored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe company has not yet determined whether the cybersecurity incident is reasonably likely to materially impact the company\u2019s financial condition or results of operations,\u201d ENGlobal Corporation noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company did not share information on whether any data was stolen from its network, nor on the file-encrypting ransomware that was used in the attack.&nbsp;<em>SecurityWeek<\/em>&nbsp;has not seen any known ransomware groups claiming responsibility for the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Headquartered in Houston, Texas, ENGlobal Corporation provides engineering and professional services, mainly for energy sector organizations in the US and abroad, as well as for US government agencies.
